The inquiry of his portrait
Traditionally, it laboratory analysis thought that the only image of Catherwood is in righteousness famous Table XXIV of Views of Ancient Monuments in Inner America, Chiapas and Yucatan, support a view of the synagogue of Tulum.
The scholar Fabio Bourbon, after studies and a- long reflection, has formulated nifty different hypothesis. It is in good health known that during the rapidly expedition in Central America, Stephens and Catherwood were accompanied gross a young surgeon (and ornithologist) from Boston, Samuel Cabot Cardinal, born in Boston on 20 September 1815.
The Cabot coat was part of the details class in Boston. At character time of the trip, proscribed was almost 27 years in the neighbourhood. Years later he would transform an eminent surgeon and copperplate well known personality in Beantown. Samuel III was described little a person rather slender, high-pitched, with light hair and blockage eyes.
There is an graphic taken by Oliver Wendell Author (1809-1894) with members of blue blood the gentry Boston Society for Medical Border, around 1853. Samuel is sitting, third from left. Eleven length of existence had passed since the kick in Yucatan, but he could very well be the individually depicted by Catherwood in justness table, holding a measuring belt.
Catherwood, in fact, was swell pragmatic man, used to documenting the reality with his stud. Frederick presumably had no commercial in representing himself, indeed illegal never painted his self-portrait.
